Movie Themes

I haven’t watched any new movies lately, the other day I tried watching “Funny Games” my effort to try and get into a psycho thriller or horror movie. It didn’t work out well. The movies theme was mainly to arouse feelings of annoyance from the viewer. I generally do not like movies like these except if they have actors that I love, an example of a movie which is supposed to cause annoyance for the audience was “Lakeview Terrace”. I love Samuel Jackson therefore I didn’t mind watching that movie. I also love Tim Roth but in “Funny Games” he was the victim and I didn’t enjoy how the whole situation was playing out.
I like themes of wit triumphing over all challenges. This is usually depicted in gangster movies, which is why they are one of my favourites. Soon we will be getting “Public Enemy” the latest release on John Dillinger. I watched the 1973 version simply called “Dillinger”, it was a joy to watch and because it was joyous, I had to watch it over and over again. Dillinger was a very interesting character, never afraid to use his wit to get out of a situation. One time he got jailed and the day he escaped he saw a bank while escaping and figured the cops would never expect him to rob a bank while he is running from them. So he went on to rob the bank and took the bank manager hostage while at it. His buddy and the bank manager escaped into the outskirts of the town, at which point he got out of the car, took the bag of money and split it 3 ways. The bank manager thought he would get shot but was astonished that Dillinger would share his take with him. Dillinger then told the bank manager that because of the depression that America was in everyone deserved a break and that included the bank manager! That was just a piece of Dillinger’s class. Now because this 1973 version was so good, I have high expectations from this upcoming one.
Awesome Gerald!!
