Big Budget Fuck ups!!

Hi everyone, I have been missing in action for a while and its time I came back and talk about movies that are showing at this point in our lives. Recently we have been subjected to a number of big budget fucked up movies from Hollywood like G.I. Joe, Transformers II and 2012 to name a few. What bothers me about such movies is how the production teams lost track of the essential point of movies which to me is putting a story onto film. That should be the major objective when anyone who makes movies decides to make any new film.
The problem with Hollywood most times is that they focus on the number two objective which to me is making money from the film. Every time a blockbuster is about to come out there is always an 80% chance that to promote the movie the studios have to remind the public on how expensive the movie was to make. This goes on to mean that they hope to make this money back when the movie gets released. They then go on to explain how the money was spent in making the movie, how such a scene used this and that technology as if I care about that. Right now Avatar is about to come out and all I hear is how Cameron spent so much money and time making this movie. If the movie turns out to be entertaining then that's awesome but before we know how it will turn out let’s talk a little about this situation because it embodies my whole frustration with recent big budget films.
Avatar and most big budget films consistently shove their budgets down the consumer’s throat prior to release and for what purpose?? Does the viewer care about any of this? I certainly don’t give a fuck about how much it cost or how they spent the money and so on. All I care about is am I entertained when I see this movie. That is all that matters, just like Cameron and all these Hollywood executives don’t care how I made my $11 to pay for their movie. All they care about is that I pay to watch their movie. So because this is the relationship we have between movie makers and movie gowers we should put more emphasis on the movie because that’s the only thing we have in common.
In line with our big budget movies lets get back to the story telling part of my frustration, why is it so difficult for Hollywood to just tell a captivating story without having to use the story as a filler for a series of mind boggling sequence of explosions?? Shouldn’t it be the other way around? Anytime I watch a trailer I always look to see what the emphasis is on. Some trailers show us a glimpse of the story and some show us action scenes that are very dramatic but fail to tell us what the story is all about. After seeing the trailer for Avatar I must say I felt like they might have a good story, its obvious the story has been told before but that shouldn’t be too much of a problem because most stories have been told plenty of times, what should be new is how the story is told. I sure hope it will be entertaining quite like Titanic was. I also hope that it’s nowhere near as pathetic as G.I Joe, Transformers II and 2012 was!!
Until next time people keep watching good movies, stay away from plot less money making wannabe films because if you do this you help in reducing cinematic pollution!!
